Assassin's Creed III set to break pre-order records

Assassin’s Creed III isn’t due out until late October, but it’s already shattering records, with Ubisoft reporting the game’s “on track” to become the highest pre-ordered game in the history of the company.

The news comes just three weeks after the game was made available for pre-orders in the United States. In that time, Assassin’s Creed III has already eclipsed the life-to-date U.S. pre-orders achieved by Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

Ubisoft’s current most pre-ordered game is Assassin’s Creed Revelations – at this point, AC3 has already snagged more than 10 times the North American pre-orders seen by Revelations over the same timeframe – and it’s on track to match the game’s lifetime U.S. pre-orders by June.

(Pre-orders in other territories, including Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia/New Zealand kicked off this week, and those numbers aren’t available just yet.)

Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing, Ubisoft explains:

On October 30th players will experience the biggest game launch in Ubisoft’s history with the highly anticipated release of Assassin’s Creed III. With a development cycle of three years, Assassin’s Creed III is the true next-generation experience of the Assassin’s Creed brand. The production value of the game, combined with the biggest marketing commitment we’ve ever made, will make Assassin’s Creed III the highest-selling Assassin’s Creed game ever. Additionally, the new setting and hero makes this the perfect time to jump into the series for anyone that has not previously played an Assassin’s Creed game.

Despite the number, Assassin’s Creed III is the fifth installment in the series – and it’s headed to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 30th, with a version for Wii U also in the works.
