Game Masters: Tim Schafer plans Australian visit

My goodness: Tim Schafer – founder of Double Fine Productions, creator of Psychonauts, Brütal Legend and the Monkey Island franchise – is headed to Australia.

The industry legend has been invited Down Under to celebrate the opening of the Game Masters exhibition to be held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), in Melbourne.

Want to know a little more about why this is a Big Deal? Here’s a video teaser that ACMI has released, showing Schafer’s personal answer to the question: Are video games art?

Game Masters kicks off on June 28th and runs until late October. It turns out Shafer will be in good company: Peter Molyneux has also confirmed his attendance in the exhibition’s opening week, while ACMI will also play host to a history-spanning stack of games, including works from such legends as Toru Iwatani (Pac-man), Ed Logg (Asteroids), Tomohiro Nishikado (Space Invaders) and Dave Theurer (Missile Command), Tetsuya Mizuguchi (Child of Eden), Yuji Naka (Sonic the Hedgehog), Fumito Ueda (Ico, Shadow of the Colossus) and Will Wright (SimCity, The Sims).

Stay tuned, we’ll be keeping a close eye on this one – might be time to plan a trip to Melbourne…
