Last month, developer Human Head pulled out of several scheduled appearances at GDC in San Francisco, with the company refusing to comment on the reasons behind the decision. Lead graphics programmer Brian Karis commented at the time that it was “not a good day” for him or the team – but even he has kept quiet on these new developments.
Bethesda is outright refusing to comment on the story when questioned – sources are expecting an announcement relating to the game a little later this week.
Prey 2 was first announced back in 2008, but lived in development hell until a year ago, when a shiny live-action trailer popped up from Human Head as well as information about the game’s development. Allegedly the sequel was set to make “significant” changes to the series – not the least of which being the “alien noir” setting, the new characters, and the back-end grunt of the id Tech 5 engine.
The game was on display at last year’s QuakeCon, and we caught up with company co-founder Chris Rhinehart while at E3 last year – all signs at the time were pointing to an exciting, innovative game set to build on the success of the original.
“It’s an open-world shooter where you play a bad-ass bounty hunter in a sci-fi world!”
If all goes according to plan, Prey 2 is set to arrive on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC “later this year” – but that’s looking more and more unlikely as the days go by.
