God of War PSP studio working on new platform

Sony would like to bring the God of War series to mobile platforms as well as the PS Vita, but long-time portable developer Ready at Dawn has already turned down the proposal.

The studio behind God of War: Chains of Olympus and God of War: Ghost of Sparta explains that it is already working on a new IP – for a new platform – explaining that revisiting the God of War franchise “just didn’t align with what we wanted”.

Ru Weerasuriya, company CEO explains that Ready at Dawn is very happy with its current position:

I think the big thing for us was just that we took the decision early to just skip a generation. I know that most people would have jumped on the current generation. Most people ask us that, how do you go from a handheld to a next generation console? I think it’s the right thing to do. Sometimes you’ve just got to make your bets and live by them.

Sometimes, he says, living by your bets can be difficult, particularly when it comes to the development opportunities opened up by Vita.

There is some stuff on there that just amazed me and made me almost want to go like, ‘Wow, maybe we should have done this, maybe we should have split into two teams.’

I don’t know, but I think it’s got a bright future. It just needs the content.

Weerasuriya explains to Games Industry that he hopes that God of War does get a Vita release, even if it’s not one his company is involved with.
