World of Warcraft really, really wants you back

If you’ve got that annoying friend who keeps hassling you about returning to World of Warcraft, it might almost be time to take them up on the offer. Blizzard has revealed plans for the revamped Scroll of Resurrection, which will change the playing field for returning gamers – boosting them all the way up to Level 80 in the blink of an eye.

For a limited time only, anyone accepting a Scroll will be granted some pretty tasty benefits:

  • A single character immediately boosted all the way to level 80 — DING!
  • A FREE upgrade to Cataclysm — regardless of your friend’s original box level
  • An optional FREE character move — to your realm and faction so you can play together
  • 7 FREE days of game time — available immediately

…but it doesn’t stop there. If you send a Scroll (and it’s accepted), you’re in line for a free faction mount – a Spectral Gryphon for the Alliance, or a Spectral Wind Rider for the Horde. These mounts haven’t been officially revealed, but we do have a couple of sneaky images to show you.

To be eligible to receive this new Scroll of Resurrection, you’ll have to have previously picked up at least one month of World of Warcraft gametime – and been inactive since March 4th or earlier (so you can’t just quit today and scam some free stuff).

If you’ve not played for longer than that – since 2009 or earlier – you’ll need to upgrade to a (free) Battle.net account as well. Blizzard has a full and comprehensive FAQ to bring you up to speed.

The Scroll itself is currently in cooldown, but we’re promised it’s getting ready to be cast in the not-so-distant future. Keep an eye out, we’ll bring you the news as soon as this one hits.
