Homer has triggered a nuclear disaster that has scattered bits and pieces of Springfield all over the map. Don’t worry, nobody was harmed, but it’s now up to you to put everything back together.
…that’s the premise of new iOS game The Simpsons: Tapped Out, which EA is publishing in the next few weeks. It’s the company’s next foray into the freemium mobile market, with the game free to play – unless you want to speed things up, in which case you can exchange real-world money for in-game donuts.
Bernard Kim, senior vice president of global publishing for social and mobile at EA explains:
“We want this to be one of the biggest titles this year. We’ve invested a lot. It’s absolutely a top-tier development priority for us.”
Unlike previous Simpsons-related games, Tapped Out features the same writers and voice actors as the television series, which has been running for more than 20 years.
While Homer is the first playable character in the game, he’s quickly joined by Lisa and the rest of the family, before other characters show up – including Hans Moleman and Duffman. More familiar faces will be added over time.
At this stage, there’s no set release date for The Simpsons: Tapped Out, but CNET reports that the game is coming to iOS in the not-too-distant future, with an Android version in the months following.
