The Secret World sets a (slightly delayed) date

The Secret World will be a little less secretive come June 19th, as developer Funcom reveals the release date for the highly anticipated MMORPG. While the news will thrill most gamers, eagle-eyed fans will notice that it’s a little later than expected – the development team decided to push the game back from its slated April launch in order to give The Secret World “even more polish”.

Creative Director and Senior Producer Ragnar Tørnquist explains:

Allowing for even more time to polish the game really shows just how much faith Funcom as a company has in ‘The Secret World’and how committed we are to making it the best it can be.

The additional time will also allow us to carry out even more quality beta testing, and soon we will also be announcing several public beta events where hundreds of thousands of gamers will get to test the game prior to launch.

The game has already undergone a rigorous testing period both through hands-on events and an extended beta program. At this stage, “almost 9 out of 10” beta testers say they will play the game at launch, with an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the game’s immersion, story, dungeons, missions, combat and role-playing systems.

…and it’s not a small test, either. There are more than 750,000 currently-registered beta testers – and this is expected to grow “significantly” in the leadup to launch. Funcom notes that there are considerably more beta testers interested in The Secret World than previous MMO Age of Conan, at the same point in development.
