Avoiding all references to David, Goliath and other classical battles where the big guy is defeated by the little one, Microsoft has listened to indie developer complaints, adjusting the Xbox Live Marketplace to make independent games significantly more obvious.
A recent update saw indie games shunted behind the “Game Type” button on the Xbox 360, making them difficult to find even if you knew what you were looking for. After developer backlash, Microsoft has apologised profusely, and redesigned the Marketplace to feature indie titles on the “top level”, right next to Games on Demand and Xbox Live Arcade.
As you’ve now noticed, the Xbox Live Marketplace was updated to change the way games are surfaced to customers.
Microsoft is continually working to better organise our digital game content on the platform and your feedback played a part in that.
The new new update has been rolled out in North America, and is expected to arrive in Europe soon. It also introduces a number of other features to the Indie Games section: Sections dedicated to both New Release and Top Download titles, as well as the ability to sort A-Z and by Genre.
This update is something we are extremely excited about as it really brings Xbox Live Indie Games to a higher level of visibility in the dashboard. We believe these changes will help even more gamers find and experience the great offerings you’ve all developed for Xbox Live Indie Games.
…now you have no excuse. Go, fire up your console and dive right in to some great indie content.
