…but there’s one thing the video doesn’t make clear: All of that AR stuff, Sub-Zero and Scorpion battling it out on the sidewalk, it’s all staged. The game – while it will take advantage of the Vita’s cutting-edge technology – will not actually feature AR elements. Instead, you get touch-screen fatalities and a collection of minigames (hardly a fair trade, if you ask me).
Not sure quite why the marketing department chose to head in this direction, unless it’s a slightly misinterpreted version of the “play anywhere” concept. In the meantime, if you’d like to check out some augmented reality battles, you may want to pick up a copy of Reality Fighters for Vita. We previewed the game at E3, and it seems to fit that niche quite nicely.
