In a world where so many video games are voiced by the same few people (here’s lookin’ at you, Nolan North), it’s a breath of fresh air when developers announce shiny new actors joining the team. Today’s inhalation: EA and Starbreeze, who have confirmed that both Brian Cox (The Bourne Identity) and Rosario Dawson (Sin City) will be taking starring roles in the upcoming release of Syndicate.
Obviously, if you’re Australian, you can stop reading now, but the rest of the world is in for a treat.
Dawson plays Lily Drawl, a rising star in the world of EuroCorp, the world’s largest and most aggressive syndicate. Lily is a complicated character, torn between her corporate role and the underground resistance to the syndicates. She’s living on borrowed time, knowing that the balancing act will have to end, and soon.
I’m amazed how videogames have become so deep in story, delivering fantastic worlds and memorable characters rivaling big Hollywood films. I was excited when EA approached me to play Lily Drawl in Syndicate. She’s an interesting and strong female character. How cool is it to play the mastermind who designed the military chip inside the player’s head!
Brian Cox plays Jack Denham, while The Crow‘s Michael Wincott appears as Jules Merit. Both men represent significant roles at the highest peak of EuroCorp’s hierarchy.
Mikael Nermark, CEO of Starbreeze Studios explains:
Syndicate immerses players deep into a dystopian world of unscrupulous corporations and chip augmented enforcers. These agents are the weapons of this war for market dominance and we needed strong talent to represent these intense characters. We are honored to have worked with the incredible Rosario Dawson, Brian Cox and Michael Wincott to make this world come alive.
And the wait’s nearly over! The world of Syndicate will come alive on February 21st in North America, and February 24th in Europe for PS3, PC and Xbox 360. In case this sci-fi tale sounds familiar, it is – of course – a reboot of the 1993 Bullfrog classic.
