Blizzard still hasn’t said anything definitive about its upcoming MMO, codenamed Titan, forcing information-starved gamers to delve into the deepest, darkest places of the internet to find snippets and sneak peeks of what’s in store.
Today, the’ve struck apparent gold, through a job posting at the company, calling for a Franchise Development Producer to work on the next-gen MMO.
At the start, this position sounds pretty straightforward – a “highly organised individual” is wanted to liaise between the developers and other Blizzard teams, working to create “brand-extending” merchandise including books, action figures, comics and clothing. This includes promoting the game “outside of the gaming industry”.
…but reading further, there’s an interesting note: The successful applicant will also “Work with major consumer brands to facilitate product placement and licensing within the world of Blizzard Entertainment’s next-gen MMO that enhances the gameplay experience.”
Obviously, nobody is sure quite what’s meant by all of this. It could be a version of EverQuest 2‘s fabled /pizza command, which saw gamers able to order sustenance without leaving the keyboard.
Alternatively, as nobody knows anything about where – or when – Titan will be placed, it could be real-world billboards popping up along a contemporary street, or that refreshing glass of in-game cola may come with a familiar-looking red-and-white label.
On the third hand, this could just be Blizzard looking for ways to maximise revenue – because that’s the sort of thing that companies do, remember?
