Silent Hill: Downpour soundtrack album emerges

By now, we all know that retailers aren’t the most reliable source when it comes to big announcements or reveals. But still, Amazon has sparked hope with the addition of a soundtrack album for Silent Hill: Downpour.

Soundtrack albums for games can be hit-or-miss, but the soundtracks for Silent Hill have been universally brilliant, thanks to the contributions of the one and only Akira Yamaoka.

Since his departure, his shoes have been filled by cinematic composer Daniel Licht, who’s probably best known for his atmospheric work on the television series Dexter, as well as working closely with horror director Clive Barker on a number of projects. Who better?

At this stage, Konami has kept quiet regarding the soundtrack, never announcing whether it would be included with Downpour, thrown in as a pre-order incentive, or released as a stand-alone recording.

According to Amazon, it looks like the third option is the right one – selling for around US$15 at time of writing, and due for release in March 2012.
