S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 survives, faces financial strife

Celebrations that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 is still in development may have been a little premature, as developer GSC Game World confesses that it needs a little extra cash in order to finish the eagerly-awaited sequel.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Don't call it a comeback.

The game was re-confirmed through a Facebook posting, which simply stated that, despite earlier reports, the game is still in development, and the dev team is “extremely happy”.

Now though, GSC spokesperson Oleg Yavorsky has admitted to EDGE that they’re down to their last few pennies.

We are still in the process of seeking funding to back up the project. We are hopeful things turn out well eventually. The team really wants to see STALKER continue.

Just before Christmas 2011, CEO and founder Sergei Grigorovich reportedly left the company, and planned to close the studio, claiming personal reasons. Today’s news seems to back up part of that story, but suggesting Grigorovich was talked out of closing the whole company. We’ll keep you posted.
