As painful as it is for those involved, the Christmas-New Year break is traditionally the time for job cuts, retrenchments and employee “reshuffling”.
This time around, the axe has hit id Software, who has confirmed an unknown quantity of staff have lost their jobs.

The official statement from parent company Bethesda Softworks reads:
As part of its standard business practice, id regularly evaluates staffing to ensure it has a workforce that meets the needs of the studio. As part of that process, some id employees were recently let go.
Despite all that, we’re reassured that id “is still recruiting and hiring qualified developers,” and that work on “future id titles” is continuing. By that, they mean Doom 4, which has been in development for nearly five years now.
