If you’re a fan of Twisted Metal but somehow missed out on a copy of Twisted Metal: Black when it launched for PS2 back in 2001, make sure you act fast when it comes to the series reboot, landing exclusively on PS3 on Valentines Day, February 14.
Not only will you get your fix of clowning, vehicular madness, but David Jaffe and the fellas at Eat Sleep Play have tucked a special treat for you into the box.
Every copy of the first print run will come with a downloadable copy of Twisted Metal: Black, playable on your new console.
Jaffe explained the deal in a video on the PlayStation.Blog:
We have a voucher, and it goes in the box for the first printing of Twisted Metal. It has, basically, a digital download of the original Twisted Metal: Black … as a thank you to our hardcore fans.
This deal is limited to the first print run of the game only, and Jaffe doesn’t expect that to last long.
…but why Black? Why now?
Simply put, it’s a handy little carrot to dangle in front of gamers who may be on the fence about Sweet Tooth’s return, and – of course – it is a friendly gesture of thanks for long-time fans. As for why this particular game, Jaffe explains:
Black was the first title where we really started getting into that darker world of Twisted Metal … kind of a look back to allow you to sort of see where all that began.
Specifically – Black is “integral” to understanding how Sweet Tooth the clown fits into the new Twisted Metal – so consider it a sort of prequel for the newest instalment, which arrives in February 2012.
