Veteran game designer Richard Garriott’s new company Portalarium has unleashed the details to their upcoming title. Their new title is the company’s first, original, social network game. Yes that’s correct, they have made a Facebook game. Titled Ultimate Collector: Garage Sale, players will shop and collect over a thousand different items within the game.
Create an avatar, build a house then start on your hunt to find the items you want to decorate it all. It seems to be a real selection of items from teddy bears to historic sets of armor.
Richard Garriott, creative director on this title, explains why now is the time to try this new genre breaking collectable idea.
The collectible craze is growing by leaps and bounds in this country and it’s becoming popular in other parts of the world. It’s been fueled by cable television programs such as American Pickers, Pawn Stars and Storage Wars. By the broadest definition, this is an unregulated multi-billion dollar industry in the real world. Ultimate Collector spans the gamut of that entire activity and is a way for treasure and bargain searching people to transfer that enthusiasm — that passion for the ultimate hunt — into the social network space.
The game is not just about collecting. Players may need to get items authenticated, repaired and even offer food or drinks while having a garage sale to increase customers and sales. Making the money will allow you to buy a bigger property to store all your special items or have more space to hold bigger garage sales.
Ultimate Collector: Garage Sale is set for release on Facebook in first quarter of 2012. They have mentioned that it will be available on other platforms and devices later in 2012. We will have to wait until then to get our collecting needs on and find out how this new idea will turn out.
