Notch: "So yes, Minecraft has gone gold :D"

With a promised release date looming, Notch and Mojang Specifications have confirmed that Minecraft has gone gold, and is – for all intents and purposes – “finished”.

Developer Notch took to Twitter with the simple observation, punctuated with a big smily face. He later posted an image of unassuming USB sticks – the first known copies of Minecraft 1.0, which will finally head out of beta on Friday.

Minecraft has gone gold

This, my friends, is Minecraft

Of course, after this long in development and an amazingly drawn-out alpha/beta process, Minecraft will probably never really be “finished”, but still – that’s not the point, right?

Minecraft officially launches for PC on Friday, and hits the Xbox 360 some time next year.
