Boosters banned in Battlefield 3

Gamers using a recently discovered “boosting” technique in Battlefield 3 may have woken up to discover their stats reset – or worse, their account completely banned.

EA and DICE have wielded the banhammer against “hundreds of offending acounts” in the game – and have promised to continue monitoring the rest of you just in case the issue pops up again.

Don’t get the idea that DICE thinks you’re all a bunch of dirty hackers – that’s not the case at all.

We take cheating and exploiting very seriously in Battlefield 3 and want to make it clear that it will not be tolerated … We’ll continue to be monitoring and taking action against the minority that doesn’t respect the integrity of the game.

The bans took place over all three platforms, and – hopefully – will make the leaderboards a little more representative of the skill actually being displayed in-game.

DICE have also discussed plans for a new patch, which aims to rectify some balance issues in BF3 – including adjusting the brightness of the tactical flashlights. Right now, they’re awfully shiny, blinding gamers standing up to 10 metres away. That, unsurprisingly, isn’t how they’re meant to work.
