New Assassin's Creed confirmed for 2012

File this under “something we thought we already knew” – Ubisoft is developing a new Assassin’s Creed game to release in 2012.

That much was confirmed today by Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, who then refused to say anything else about the project. But hey, at least we know now, right?

Coming out significantly before the as-yet-untitled offering, things look a little conflicting on the Assassin’s Creed: Revelations camp. On one hand, the pre-orders for the game are “significantly higher” than they were for last year’s Brotherhood, but even despite that, the company is bracing for a “double-digit” decline in comparative sales.

Guillemot explains that there has been strong preview coverage for the new game, and consumers are getting very excited, but there are still reservations:

We want to be careful and prudent, but we have high expectations for the product.

With Brotherhood currently selling on par with predecessor Assassin’s Creed II, we’re not sure how that means Revelations will hold up against the rest of the franchise.
