Tom Clancy returns with Rainbow Six: Patriots

Just when you thought it was safe, Team Rainbow is back. Ubisoft has today announced that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots is in development at Ubisoft Montreal.

We don't have any images to show you yet, this'll have to do.

While we did see a few members of Rainbow popping up in Tom Clancy’s EndWar, it’s been three years since we’ve seen the franchise proper, which last surfaced in 2008 with Rainbow Six: Vegas 2.

This time around, we’re thrown back into the world of modern-day terrorism, and given the opportunity to check it all out from different characters’ perspectives.

David Sears, creative director at Ubisoft explains:

Terrorism has evolved, and so has Rainbow 6. In Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots, all the team play, tactics, and realism that fans of the series love have been coupled with an exciting new narrative direction. This adds an unprecedented level of humanity that will make Tom Clancy’s Rainbow 6 Patriots an extremely tense and immersive experience.

Rainbow Six: Patriots puts Team Rainbow up against a new and “very real” threat known as the True Patriots. This well-organised, highly-trained group believes the American government has been corrupted by corporate special interest groups and the inevitable greedy politicians – and they’ll do anything to reclaim their country.

You guessed it – as Team Rainbow – it’s your job to stop this new breed of terrorists, making all the tough ethical decisions that are thrown at you.

With a little help from Ubisoft Toronto and Red Storm, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Patriots isn’t due out until 2013, but that just means the Canadians have a decent amount of time to make the game super-shiny.
