Chet Faliszek explains in an audio interview that the pro gamers are in a position to offer constructive criticism, which is why they were shown the game first. And it seems that the gamers delivered, in spades.
They gave us a lot of feedback on things we should get in the game before we release it, otherwise we’re going to be getting a lot of bug reports or a lot of feedback and it would just be redundant.
There’s going to be things we’re going to release it with knowing we need to add more, to do more. But just knowing there’s some feel and some just operating the game issues that need to be resolved first. We want to get those done first.
Originally planned to enter beta in October, there’s been no new date suggested at this stage – either for a beta or for the finished game. Singing the now-traditional Valve chorus, Faliszek has explained the game will be out “when it’s ready”, explaining that – as a self-publishing company – Valve has “no mandate from anybody of when we have to ship this”. Instead, the company is “more than happy” to just keep chipping away at Counter-Strike: Global Offensive until it’s done.
By the end of this, everyone will be playing the game – it will be the released game that you’re just playing. Then, at some point, we’ll say, “OK we’re going to release it”.
With no release date (or window!) announced, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, and we’re hoping it’ll hit shelves some time in the first half of 2012.
