More and more commonly these days, gamers are paying through the nose for content that was seemingly included on the disk at launch. Today though, THQ has bucked the trend, delivering a new game mode for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – absolutely free.
The new co-op mode, known as Exterminatus, sits happily alongside the game’s campaign mode, functioning completely on its own – although experience gained in this mode will carry over to yoru multiplayer rank. Choose from three classes: Assault Marine, Tactical Marine or Devastator (each one has its own weapons and perks, of course), and then fight off waves of enemies to earn points.
There’s also a bunch of score modifiers, dynamic challenges and even leaderboards thrown in – and the price is certainly right. If you’ve already got a copy of Space Marine, this should expand your experience – and if you’ve been on the fence, this might be a nudge in the right direction.
THQ follows in Rockstar‘s footsteps with the release of Exterminatus, which mimics last year’s decision to release the co-op element of Red Dead Redemption after the launch of the full game last year.

If you want it, come and get it: Exterminatus is available now for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine on PS3 and PC as a free download, with the promise of an Xbox 360 version “soon”.
