File this one under “Didn’t we already know that?” – BioWare has taken the wraps off of the multiplayer elements for Mass Effect 3, in a move which has divided the gaming community.

Australian magazine PC Power Play picked up the scoop with its cover story, but it didn’t take long for BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson to jump onto Twitter and confirm the news.

Yes, co-op MP missions for #ME3: they’re real, and they’re spectacular. Rest assured it’s nothing of what you’ve feared. More soon…

We’d been hearing rumours about this for months now (since before the game was officially announced!), with stories rumbling that the conclusion of the Mass Effect trilogy would feature standalone four-player co-op missions.

For those concerned with storylines and canon, the rumour implied that multiplayer missions would be separate to the main game, possibly featuring different characters.

More details are expected from EA and BioWare shortly – but they’ve got plenty of time really, Mass Effect 3 won’t be launched until March 6th, 2012.
