You’d think, after all this time working on the freshly-announced Syndicate, that Starbreeze Studios would have its collective hands full. Apparently not though, as the company has revealed today that it is now working on another, brand-new IP.
This time around, The Darkness developer is working with Swedish director Josef Fares (best known for his films Jalla! Jalla! Jalla!, Zozo, Kopps and Farsan. Fares got together with The Story Lab, came up with an interesting concept, and pitched it to Starbreeze.
While these things don’t always run smoothly, Fares explains that he and Starbreeze were on the right page from the start.
I love games, and I have been working on a games concept for quite some time. The more I worked with the concept, the more convinced I felt that this is a solid game idea.
Together with Story Lab we created a prototype that we presented to Starbreeze, and they instantly liked the concept.
…and that’s not just the artist being a diva, as Starbreeze CEO Mikael Nermark backs him up:
Just minutes into Josef’s presentation we knew that this was a game that we wanted to develop, and we started to work on the concept the very same day
Just what that concept is remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds “interesting”, to say the least. Starbreeze of course is still being kept busy by the now-confirmed reboot of Syndicate, but is donating a few extra cycles to this new project on the side.
