Originally designed as a free download modification for Unreal Tournament 3, the mod went on to win $50,000 in the Epic-sponsored Build Something Unreal contest in 2010, and take the world a little bit by storm.
Now, THQ has revealed that it will be publishing The Haunted: Hells Reach as a standalone PC game this October, through its ValuSoft label. The publisher’s Managing director Maleea Barnett is pretty pleased with this arrangement:
The Haunted: Hells Reach is a suspenseful thriller that delivers a rich blend of combat and action/adventure, set in eerily dark environments and is guaranteed to have horror enthusiasts and hardcore gamers at the edge of their seats throughout the entire nail-biting experience.
It still – obviously – has the Unreal Engine providing the back-end, meaning you know this one’s going to run well and look awesome. Then there’s demons, and lots of ’em. Pick one of four different types of demon hunters to dispatch them across 30 different stages. You can even get into it with your mates, with Survival, Co-op, Battle and Demonizer the flavour of the day.
The Haunted: Hells Reach is out on PC in the next couple of months, we’re told a downloadable PS3 / Xbox 360 version is in the works too, due in early 2012.
