So it’s no surprise then that the company is bringing the game back, releasing Sonic CD to mobile phones and consoles all over the place.
Haruki Satomi continues:
Sonic CD marks an important chapter in Sonic’s history, bridging the gap between his oldest adventures and his new digital exploits like Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I. We’ve made sure the re-mastered edition has everything that Sonic fans want to see with all of the original colourful classic zones.
The historic chapter he’s referring to saw the game make its debut on the MEGA CD system back in 1993, introducing Metal Sonic and Amy Rose. They’ll both be in the re-release, along with tunes straight from the original Japanese soundtrack.
Sonic CD sees Dr. Eggman stealing Times Stones from the Little Planet, causing chaos and trying to seize the future itself. It’s up to Sonic to recover the Stones as quickly as he can, fending off Eggman’s dastardly robots. That’s not the only fiendish enemy in Sonic CD though, our beloved hedgehog’s mechanical twin – Metal Sonic – has kidnapped Amy Rose!
The re-release will include enhanced (widescreen!) graphics, a bunch of iOS specific features, and achievements and trophies for all major platforms. Keep an eye out, Sonic CD is headed to iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network, PC digital download, Windows Phone 7 and Android devices, starting in the North American summer.
