CryENGINE 3 outsells Unreal Development Kit

Last week, on August 17th, Crytek released the SDK version of CryENGINE 3. Today, after just five days on the market, the company is thrilled to announce that more than 100,000 copies have been downloaded.

Now available, free of charge

According to Jens Schöbel, 3D Web Engineer at Crytek, that means the CryENGINE has been downloaded more than Epic GamesUDK in the same time period.

The SDK was released last week to coincide with GDC Europe and Gamescom. Developers are provided with an AAA-quality next-generation engine, including the CryENGINE 3 Sandbox level editor, a third-generation “WYSIWYP” tool (What you see is what you play), designed by – and for – professional developers.

If you’re interested in using the SDK for commercial release, there’s a royalty-only license model available, where you simply hand Crytek 20% of your revenues from the commercial launch of the game in order to use the software.
