Star Wars: The Old Republic pre-orders now open

Electronic Arts has officially opened pre-orders for the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Old Republic – but only in “certain regions worldwide”. The [surl=https://preorder.origin.com/?&locale=en_US]EA Origin[/surl] website claims this is “to maintain a high quality of service”, enabling gamers in Great Britain and the United States to put down money for the game, but not those in Australia or other areas.

Despite this, the site is experiencing high demand for a limited quantity of games, so the company has introduced a unique pre-preorder system.

  1. Complete the order form
  2. You will be sent an email confirming your pre-order request has been received
  3. Pre-order requests will be processed in the order they are received, while quantities last
  4. An email will be sent within 48 hours to let you know if your pre-order request was successful
  5. If your request is successful, your credit card will be charged for the pre-order. Your card will be charged for the price of the edition you ordered when the game is released. If you have questions, please see our pre-order FAQ.

So… “the edition you ordered”, eh? There’s a choice of three, over at [surl=https://preorder.origin.com/?&locale=en_US]Origin[/surl], and they essentially throw in a bunch of goodies with each tier.

A pre-order of the Standard Edition comes with early game access, an in-game Color Stone and 30 days of game time. Choose from Digital or Physical copies, for US$59.99 (pay $5 now).

Pre-ordering the Digital Deluxe Edition will get you all of the above, plus five additional items – the Flare Gun, Training Droid, HoloDancer, HoloCam and STAP. This will cost you US$79.99 (pay $5 now).

Then there’s the Limited Collector’s Edition, which is awfully shiny. You’ll get all of the Digital Deluxe content, plus: Exclusive Gentle Giant Darth Malgus statue, Game disks collectible metal case, The Journal of Master Gnost-Dural as annotated by Satele Shan, The Old Republic galaxy map, Custom Security Authentication Key, Music of Star Wars: The Old Republic CD and it all comes in a High-quality Collector’s Edition box. You’ll also get seven digital items – the five from the DDeluxe edition, as well as an Exclusive Mouse Droid and access to the Exclusive Collector’s Edition Store. That will set you back US$149.99, pay $20 now.

We’ve contacted EA for more details on when other territories might be able to pre-order SW:TOR, and whether those same editions will be shared globally. We’ll keep you informed.
