Good things come to those who wait – and sometimes, they come a little earlier than expected. Play for Japan: The Album is now available for download – a collection of all-new tunes contributed by video game composers including Akira Yamaoka, Bear McCreary, Inon Zur, Jason Graves, Laura Shigihara, Koji Kondo, Nobuo Uematsu, Tommy Tallarico and Woody Jackson.

The idea – originally conceived by Yamaoka-san – was for the games industry to pull together in response to the devastating earthquake and tsunami which hit Japan (and shook the world) on March 11th 2011. Proceeds from the album will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross.

Yamaoka explains:

I’m so proud to share this with videogame and music fans, thanks to the hard work of friends and fellow composers from around the world. With so many diverse artists and styles featured, this truly is a global effort towards a worthwhile cause.
