Facebook: Civ World enters open beta

Productivity is set to plummet this week, as Civ World enters open beta on Facebook. Sid Meier’s latest game, a social network-powered offering, has been buzzing around in an invite-only state for a while now, but the doors have been flung open and you’re all invited to the party.

…that is, if you can get in. The servers are still under a bit of load, as gamers from the real world flood the virtual servers, all vying to become ruler of the make-believe.

Gamers must collaborate with each other to proceed – as Sid Meier himself explained on Facebook:

Civ World games will have a well-defined beginning and end, each ending with a triumphant civilization and one person recognised as that game’s most prestigious player.

Along the way, as you progress through the different eras of time, you’ll have the chance to win era victories as well. We want players to have both a final goal to work towards, as well as short-term objectives to achieve as they play.

There are, of course, quests to fulfill, triumphs to celebrate, and trophies to win. These will carry over into your next game, and – in a nice, if inevitable touch – you’ll be able to show them all off in your throne room.

…so, what do you think? Will you be hanging out for just-one-more-turn on Facebook with Civ World?
