A 13-year old Irish boy has been released on bail, but only after handing his Xbox 360 console to the authorities.
The High Court judge in Belfast decided upon the unusual punishment when considering the teenager’s bail application. As the boy is currently accused of a number of burglaries in the Dowpatrick area, the judge asked which of his possessions meant the most to him – the boy (who cannot be named as he is a minor) admitted that it was his Xbox 360.
The judge then announced that the boy had to hand over the games machine to the authorities, to teach the teenager what it was like to have something he valued taken from him.
The Xbox will be returned when the charges are fully dealt with.
