Yep, that’s right, it’s gone back to its roots, with the original Carmageddon developer regaining the rights to the franchise and relishing the opportunity.
Patrick Buckland, CEO and Stainless co-founder explains:
Carmageddon has returned to its Indie developer roots, and the time is right to bring the game to a new audience.
Originally an ambitious title that tested the hardware limits of its day, we’re excited that the game will finally get the showcase it deserves on today’s platforms.
From the sounds of things, we’re in for more of the same. And why not?! Neil Barnden, Stainless co-founder and Executive Director, explains:
Carmageddon: Reincarnation will feature the same black humour and comic violence that made the original game such a success.
All the laughs, the crazy power-ups, and extreme destruction will return. We will make sure the existing fans get what they want and expect from a Carmageddon game, and a new generation discovers the delights of sliding into a Cunning Stunt.
…yes, you read right.
The game’s been announced now, while it’s still in the early stages of pre-production development, and Carmageddon: Reincarnation isn’t due out until next year – providing Stainless can find a partner who’ll move the ambitious indie project into full production.
That means – hopefully – bringing the title to digital download, where Stainless Games already has an “enviable” reputation. Platforms and further details will be confirmed later. In the meantime, start reminiscing, folks – this one’s getting revved up and ready to go.
