Are you one of those people who had so much faith in 3D Realms that you slapped down your cash and pre-ordered Duke Nukem Forever more than a decade ago? In the years that followed, did you figure that money was lost and gone, something to laugh about as the game languished in vaporware Hell?

Well, if you can find your receipt, certain retailers have promised to honour your ageing pre-order, with US retailer GameStop leading the pack.
“With a long-anticipated release like Duke Nukem Forever, we encourage customers who pre-ordered more than a year ago to verify their reservation with their local store prior to launch. Provided the customer has a receipt, we will honor even those pre-orders taken long ago. At this time, we expect that all pre-order customers will receive Duke’s Big Package at time of purchase, regardless of when the reservation was made.”
GameStop of course has snapped up a number of other retailers, so it’s worth researching where you made your Duke pre-order and bringing the matter up with the new store.
Even if you didn’t order DNF from a GameStop-affiliated franchise, I think it’s probably worth a phonecall to your local gaming emporium to see if they will honour your crinkled receipt and ancient enthusiasm. While we’re not expecting everybody to jump on board, there’s probably a few who’ll offer you pre-order bonuses for a decision you made last century.
