Carmageddon is not a Square Enix project

Carmageddon is coming back, but Square Enix says that it has nothing to do with the game.

The news comes after a countdown timer appeared on [surl=][/surl] over the weekend, whipping gamers into a frenzy of speculation.

Well hello, gorgeous!

A source “familiar with the matter” has explained to [surl=]VG247[/surl] that the new Carmageddon website is not owned by the publisher, and that Square Enix no longer holds the rights to the IP (the company did previously, after purchasing original publisher Eidos).

At this stage, there’s been no information shared about who will be developing the game, either. Original developers Stainless now focusses on downloadable titles such as Magic: The Gathering, so while it’s possible, it seems unlikely that we’re getting a new one from them.

Still, at least we don’t have long to wait. The countdown is ticking over until June 1st, which is just a few days before E3. Will we see something at the Expo? Fingers crossed – it’s about time!
