What is E3?
E3 – the Electronic Entertainment Expo – is an annual video game tradeshow. It’s designed to show off all of the latest and greatest in, well, electronic entertainment. That means the newest video games, consoles and peripherals are on display – some are even playable – and most of the industry publishers and developers all congregate in one place to talk about their wares.
The show is full of press conferences and media events where big announcements are made (this year we’re expecting the big reveal of Project Cafe and some more information about the NGP), as well as smaller updates on in-development projects and games making their way to retail. Essentially, it’s the biggest week in the games industry calendar, and most of the year’s highlights happen over just a couple of days.
When is E3?
In 2011, E3 will be held from June 7-9, Tuesday-Thursday.
Those are the official dates, but some companies choose to have “pre-E3” conferences and events, while others will hold gatherings as late as the following weekend. There are even some held weeks before the official expo, just to get everybody in the mood.
Where is E3?
In 2011, E3 will be held in the Los Angeles Convention Center, in downtown LA, for the fourth year straight.
Previously, the event has appeared in Atlanta, Georgia and just up the coast in Santa Monica, but now it has returned.
While the LACC is where the show floor and major exhibits are located, many publishers – including the Big Three: Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo – hold press conferences and media events in nearby venues.
When is the Microsoft Xbox E3 2011 Press Conference?
The Microsoft Xbox 360 E3 2011 Media Briefing will be held on Monday June 6th, at 9am PDT (12pm EDT, 5pm London, 1:30am Tuesday June 7th Adelaide). This year, the event will be held in the Galen Center, down the road from the Convention Center.
When is the Sony PlayStation E3 2011 Press Conference?
The Sony Computer Entertainment E3 2011 Press Conference will be held on Monday June 6th, at 5pm PDT (8pm EDT, 1am Tuesday June 7th London, 9:30am Tuesday June 7th Adelaide). This year, the event will be held in the LA Sports Arena.
The Press Conference is expected to reveal more details about the NGP, including the handheld console’s real name.
When is the Nintendo E3 2011 Press Conference?
The Nintendo E3 2011 Press Conference will be held on Tuesday June 7th at 9am PDT (12pm EDT, 5pm London, 1:30am Wednesday June 8th Adelaide). This year, the event will be held in the Nokia Theater, next door to the Convention Center.
Expect Reggie Fils-Aime, as well as Satoru Iwata and Shigeru Miyamoto to make an appearance, and the official unveiling of the company’s latest console, codenamed Project Cafe.
What games will be at E3?
Too many to include in this list! There are plenty that have been confirmed, and still more that are rumoured or believed to be appearing. Keep your eyes peeled, we’ll make sure you’re updated with all the big stories.
