Need for Speed: The Run starts revving up

Adrenaline junkies, listen up! EA and Black Box have just confirmed the latest in the Need for Speed franchise. We’ve got the brand new trailer for you, and some of the details about just what’s in store.

In Need for Speed: The Run, you’re on the wrong side of the law in an underground world of illegal high-stakes racing – and it looks amazing.

Just like Battlefield 3, Need For Speed: The Run will use the awfully shiny new Frostbite 2 engine from DICE, promising an unparalleled breed of visual quality and enhanced car physics. It also promises new levels of immersive storytelling, a revamped Autolog functionality to keep track of your progression and stats and, of course, no speed limits.

This is the box you want.

Get ready to rip up the road in a “heart-pounding cross-country race” that stretches all the way from San Francisco to New York – and it’s not just the police who are on your tail.

Settings range from dense urban traffic, narrow canyons and icy mountain passes, with Executive Producer Jason DeLong describing the racing as “edge of your seat”.

“This is the year that Need for Speed goes to the next level. We think that Need for Speed The Run is going to surprise people with its intense, thrilling story and big action feel. But the game would be nothing without hot cars and crazy-fast chases. So that is what we’re delivering — explosive racing that will have players flirting with disaster at 200-miles an hour.”

Currently in development at EA‘s Black Box studios, Need for Speed: The Run will be released from November 17th, for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC and Nintendo 3DS.
