A Twitter post from 4th & Battery explained that the game had been rejected by the App Store.
“WTF? Apple rejected Unpleasant Horse cuz of “mature content?” We thought horses dying in meat grinders was wholesome family entertainment!”
(The tweet has now been removed, with 4th & Battery explaining “It’s not that we “deleted” a tweet. It’s more that we rewrote history.”)
The game, as originally submitted, lets gamers step into the (horse)shoes of a “strikingly unpleasant” flying pony, who then prances through the game destroying small birds and other – more pleasant – horses. By forcing them into a meat grinder, of course.
“We’re appealing, though (with a higher rating) and we’ll hopefully have good news for y’all soon!”
So, fingers crossed that PopCap‘s experiment – designed to allow developers to create smaller, simpler games – will rise up and succeed despite this initial setback, and we’ll all be enjoying Unpleasant Horse on our iOS devices in the near future.
