Just when you thought the buzz surrounding L.A. Noire couldn’t get any bigger, this happens. The title, due out in May, has been honoured as an Official Selection at the 2011 [surl=http://www.tribecafilm.com/festival/]Tribeca Film Festival[/surl]. That’s no small feat – particularly when you realise this is the first time ever that the festival has recognised a video game.
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games is unsurprisingly rapt:
“We’re thrilled that L.A. Noire is being recognized by the Tribeca Film Festival in this way. It’s a real honor, and another step forward for interactive entertainment.”
L.A. Noire will also be previewed – exclusively – as part of the Tribeca Talks series, on April 25th. The presentation promises to explore the crossover between interactive entertainment and filmmaking, and will also include a live interactive screening of a case from the game.
If you want to know anything about the making of the game, the technology behind it, or how story and action intersect in the medium of video games, you should probably try to make it to this one, moderated by Tribeca Enterprises’ Chief Creative Officer, Geoff Gilmore.
He also seems pretty pleased with the game’s success:
“What Rockstar and Team Bondi have accomplished with L.A. Noire is nothing less than groundbreaking. It’s an invention of a new realm of storytelling that is part cinema, part gaming, and a whole new realm of narrative expression, interactivity, and immersion. We are poised on the edge of a new frontier.”
We will, of course, explore that new frontier in May, when L.A. Noire is released for Xbox 360 and PS3, on May 17th in North America, and May 20th around the world.
