Happy birthday, Blizzard!

Happy birthday, Blizzard! The company that brought us Diablo, StarCraft and – of course – World of Warcraft is celebrating its 20th birthday today.

Company co-founders Mike Morhaime and Frank Pearce founded Blizzard (then known as Silicon & Synapse) back in March 1991, with fellow UCLA graduate, Allen Adham. While Allen’s now gone on to pursue a career in finance, Mike and Frank stayed true to their gaming ideals, turning their three-man operation into one of the most successful interactive entertainment companies in the world.

They couldn’t have gotten anywhere near this point without their many fans – and today, the company’s 20th birthday, Mike and Frank have recorded a special message, just for you (and isn’t it nice to see they dressed up for the occasion!).

I was just saying the other day that everybody born in early March (myself included) seems to be a pretty awesome person – looks like I might have to extend that statement to include companies, too! Congratulations, Blizzard – I look forward to 20 more!

(Meanwhile, by my calculations, I am nine years and one day older than Blizzard. I don’t think I’ve achieved anywhere near as much in my extra decade as the company has. Boo.)

Thanks to [surl=http://www.vg247.com/2011/03/03/blizzard-turns-20-thanks-fans-for-support]VG247[/surl] for the heads-up, we nearly missed the party!
