The company might not be familiar to you, but their work certainly should be. Robot Entertainment rose from the ashes of Ensemble Studio, when they were closed down by Microsoft in 2009. And yes, they were that studio – developers of Age of Empires and Halo Wars – so they’re coming into this new project with a hefty pedigree.
So – what is Orcs Must Die!, anyway? Here’s a trailer to give you an idea:
It’s described as a “white-knucle blend” of action and strategy, which sees gamers defending fortresses under siege. I really like the look of the traps and weapons you’ll get to choose from – and the fact that you are encouraged to “hack, launch, flatten, gibletize, and incinerate” the endless waves of filthy orcs.
Orcs Must Die! features a vibrant look, addictive gameplay, and a blatant disregard for the welfare of orcs.

Patrick Hudson, CEO of Robot Entertainment explains:
“Don’t negotiate with them. Don’t just maim them. You must kill the orcs.
Robot exists to make great games that our fans love. Orcs Must Die! is our first original title, and we’re counting on players to do what must be done: drive the orcs into oblivion!
It’s currently in development, and Orcs Must Die! will launch as a downloadable title for PCs and consoles a little later this year. I think it looks pretty darn nifty, don’t you?
