Medal of Honor sequel in the works

Last year, the Medal of Honor reboot caused a little bit of controversy. Now, the game which “let you play as the Taliban” is set to make headlines again, with Executive Producer Greg Goodrich announcing that, “Yes, Danger Close is currently working on the next Medal of Honor.”

This follows the news that the game has sold more than 5 million copies since its October launch. EA calls that a “big success”, and it’s apparently enough to warrant a sequel.

Goodrich continues:

We wanted to take a moment to thank each of you for supporting us, our new studio and our storied franchise. We would especially like to thank all of the long time Medal of Honor fans out there who have stuck with us over the years.

The news follows revelations that EA‘s other big FPS series would be seeing a return this year. Battlefield 3 developer Alan Kertz has already claimed that his game would be an improvement on last year’s Medal of Honor, particularly when it came to weapon and FOV systems, so it’ll be interesting to see how the new sequel shapes up in comparison.

For the moment, Goodrich remained quiet when it came to specifics for the new game, explaining via the Medal of Honor [surl=http://www.medalofhonor.com/blog/2011/02/case-you-were-wondering%E2%80%A6]official blog[/surl] that the team had “studies, listened and absorbed” gamer feedback on last year’s title, and are now “very excited” to be marching forward.

He also took the opportunity to thank the many active servicemen and women who sent letters, emails and messages in response to the game, most of them in appreciation for Medal of Honor‘s depiction of their community.

I can’t tell you how important this is to everyone here at Danger Close Games. You are the heartbeat of this team and this franchise and we are privileged and honored to tell your story. Medal of Honor has always been fueled by the passion of our fans and the commitment and sacrifice shown by the men and women of our armed services.

Fingers crossed that the sequel continues further down the same road, possibly stirring up a little more drama along the way.
