Nintendo 3DS – Australian launch details

Nintendo‘s new 3DS edges ever-closer, with the Australian/New Zealand release now confirmed. Gamers in that part of the world will be able to get their hands on the glasses-free 3D extravaganza in either Cosmos Black or Aqua Blue on March 31st, for AU$349.95 (RRP).

“Looking at the screen is like peering through a window into a world where characters and objects have true depth,” they say. The system boasts a 3D Depth Slider, allowing gamers to choose the level of 3D they prefer – increasing or decreasing the 3D effect, or even turning it off if desired.

This is what all the fuss is about

The handheld features the familiar + Control Pad and button controls as we saw in the DS, but Nintendo are also introducing a new Circle Pad, giving gamers 360 degrees of direction.

You’ll also be able to control your games using the built-in gyro and motion sensor, which reacts to the motion and tilt of the system – finally, leaning to the right may actually make your car turn quicker!

…so what games will you be leaning to the right in, you ask… Nintendo have just revealed the lineup of launch titles for the UK – and as the 3DS is region-locked, it’s given us some insight into what’s in store for Australia and New Zealand, too.

  • Pilotwings Resort
  • Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever
  • Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog
  • Nintendogs + Cats: Toy Poodle
  • Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition
  • The Sims 3

  • LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars

And if you’re still not sure if the 3DS is for you, Nintendo are taking the console on tour around Australia, giving gamers the chance to get up close and personal.

First off, on February 10th – that’s tomorrow! – both Sydney and Melbourne will simultaneously experience the 3D handheld goodness, from 6-9pm.
