Propaganda Games developed the 2008 reboot of Turok, and recently put the finishing touches on Tron: Evolution. Unfortunately, this movie tie-in game will be the last thing the studio creates as a unit, as parent company / publisher Disney Interactive has announced that the developer has been officially closed.
In a statement:
“Disney Interactive Studios confirms the closure of its Vancouver-based internal game development studio, Propaganda Games. The studio has completed all work associated with its most recent project.”
It’s always sad to see games companies close, but in Vancouver-based Propaganda‘s case, the writing’s been on the wall for a while. The studio’s Pirates of the Caribbean tie-in was cancelled last October, with corresponding job cuts. At the time, it was suggested that the company’s sole intention was to complete Tron and some DLC for the game.
Now, Tron has been released (to fairly average sales and reviews), along with some day-one free downloadables, and the prohecy is fulfilled. If anyone’s looking to hire game development staff in Canada, there’s about to be an influx of some very talented people.
