I’m a little bit excited. Rovio, the Finnish company who created Angry Birds have just announced that they’ll be bringing the cranky avians to life, in a new animated series. Whether or not that series will be released on TV or via a website remains to be seen.
“We have been looking at that for quite a while, and that is definitely one of my personal big focus areas right now — to work on broadcast content for ‘Angry Birds’.”
In case you’re still in the dark about this whole Angry Birds thing, it’s a ridiculously popular casual game, downloaded more than 50 million times, and starring the aforementioned grumpy feathery creatures. The aim of the game is to launch the birds through a slingshot to destroy green pigs, who have stolen the birds’ eggs. Simple.
Last August, we mentioned that the game seemed catapulted towards the silver screen, but we hadn’t really heard much since. Looks like things have still been progressing behind-the-scenes, however, as Mikael continues:
“It was a completely new area for us; we had to get our bearings there, and a sense of how the whole market was.
“That was the first part of the exercise, and now that we’ve done that, the next part is to move into production, and that’s where we are right now.”
