Sony are hoping to smash a handful of world records over the next few days in New York City, and they’re relying on SackBoy to help them out.
Gamers are currently setting up at the publisher’s PlayStation Lounge in NYC, with one goal in mind. Over the next three days, they will play LittleBigPlanet 2, and they will break seven different world records while they’re doing it.
This is an interesting twist on the traditional launch party. LBP2 hits US shelves today, and the newest printing of Guinness World Records Gamer’s Edition will be released the day after the event ends (with SackBoy on the cover!). Looks like a win/win – or win/win/win when you think about the gamers who are taking part too.
Gaming Editor for Guinness World Records, Gaz Deaves, says:
“Continuing its work of recording astounding achievements, Guinness World Records will be on hand at the launch of LittleBigPlanet 2 to monitor the record attempt and see gamers push their hobby to the limits of human endurance.
“LittleBigPlanet already holds a Guinness World Record for its outstanding online community and the Gamer’s Edition is full of amazing feats from every corner of the videogames universe.”
So – what records are up for grabs?
- Longest Marathon Playing a Platform Game
- Most User-Generated Videogame Levels Played in a Marathon
- Most Gaming Genres in One Videogame
- Most Player-Created Levels in One Videogame
- Most Video Game Genres Played In One Video Game 24 Hours
- Most User-Generated Video Game Levels Played In 24 Hours
- Longest Marathon Playing LittleBigPlanet 2
…given that the game’s only just being launched today, that last one should be pretty easy, but the others may present a challenge.

It’s not all about record breaking – the event will also feature the game’s developers, Media Molecule, as well as some of the guys from the LittleBigPodcast. We’ll be watching the event, and endeavour to keep you posted on the details of the record attempts.
