With postal mail quickly fading into obscurity (when’s the last time you got a real letter in your letterbox that wasn’t a bill or a catalogue?), it’s nice to see some people are still going out of their way to retain the nostalgia of putting a stamp on an envelope.
No, we’re not talking about the budding artists who doodle and draw all over their written correspondence (although that’s awfully cool, too) – this time, it’s an official government department showing their love. bpost, the national post company from Belgium (of all countries) will soon issue a limited edition batch of stamps dedicated to everybody’s favourite plumber.
The stamps, issued this week, show artwork from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and sheets of five will be available for just less than five euros.
This isn’t the first time that bpost have released a pop-culture tie-in edition – the company also has a strong partnership with Disney, so we’re crossing our fingers that this won’t be the last Nintendo character we see gracing envelopes.
Now, if only the Mario stamps were attached to equally-awesome letters. Alas, they’ll probably be stuck to bills, collection notices, reminders and the occasional birthday card from grandma.
