Traditionally lagging behind the rest of the world, it’s lovely to see that Australia and New Zealand will be getting their retail copies of Portal 2 when everybody else does – or within a few days, anyway.
Thanks to the efforts of Electronic Arts, who are teaming up with Valve through their EA Partners program, one of the most eagerly-anticipated titles of 2011 will hit retail stores Down Under on April 21st.
Given that the release date we’ve been seeing for the game online is “the week of April 18th”, that’s not bad! Not quite day-and-date, but if you really, really wanted it that bad, you’d snag it on Steam, right?
Doug Lombardi, vice president of marketing at Valve explains:
“Portal 2 is Valve’s most innovative title in the company’s history and will be launched with a first-class launch campaign this April. We’re excited to be working with Electronic Arts to deliver this title as we expand our platform strategy to include the Mac and PlayStation 3 platforms.”
In case you don’t have any idea what we’re talking about, Portal 2 introduces gamers to all-new puzzles, fiendish test chambers and never-before-seen areas of Aperture Science Labs. You’ll be reunited with GLaDOS (the “occasionally murderous” computer companion from the original game), and they’re promising fewer cake jokes this time around.
Even more excitingly, the game’s all-new co-operative mode will bring with it a unique campaign (and unique characters to explore it with), so you’ll have to act – and think – with a partner.
Portal 2 will be released for PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Mac, and we can’t wait.
