One of the highest-scoring, yet most frequently neglected iPhone games of the past year is Mirror’s Edge from DICE. Obviously, it’s the handheld version of the console title – and right now (and for a limited time!), it’s available for free! Snag it from the App Store, but be quick, this one won’t be free for long.
The game has been developed to maximise the “visual intensity” of the iPhone 4’s Retina Display, so it’s not simply an awkward port. You’ll again leap directly into the not-so-distant future world of Faith Connors, a “Runner” who has been catapulted into action, trying to stop a deadly threat.
“You’ve never seen or felt a game for iPhone & iPod touch quite like this,” says EA.
Run up walls, slide down ramps, ride zip lines, and hurdle between rooftops as you burn through 14 levels of increasing intensity in single-player combat mode. Think fast on your feet, engage in furious hand-to-hand combat, elude your enemies, and push yourself to the very edge.
Remember, even if your iDevice isn’t sitting nearby, or if you don’t have WiFi access (the game’s a sizeable 100MB download), you can grab this one on your PC using iTunes and your account details, and then it will all sync up when you next plug in. Too simple, and – for the price – too awesome.
