Do you have a Signature Edition copy of Gran Turismo 5? Been wondering just what prestige it really holds? Well now, you’ve been chosen – exclusively – to be part of a competition that will see one lucky gamer win a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, worth €180,000.
The competition kicks off at 9am GMT on Monday December 27th. 22 countries will compete to find 15 regional winners, each of whom has to prove to the judges that he – or she – is able to handle the 571 horsepower behind the SLS, which produces acceleration of 0-100km/h in just 3.8 seconds.
Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi said about the Signature Edition Challenge:
“We have enjoyed a brilliant working relationship with Mercedes-Benz throughout the production of Gran Turismo 5 and the stunning prize that they have offered for this competition is a testament to that. I am particularly happy that we have developed such a balanced challenge which both newcomers to the Gran Turismo brand, and more experienced racers, will find equally enjoyable.”
It’s not like you didn’t get enough stuff with the Signature Edition – the package contained a bunch of exclusive and collectable items (both real and virtual), but I hope you held onto that voucher code that was slipped into the Gran Turismo 5 leather wallet. That’s your golden ticket to this awesome competition.
Make sure you’ve downloaded all of the latest updates for the game, then head to the PlayStation Store on your PS3, redeem your voucher code and register your details on Gran-Turismo.com.
Once that’s all out of the way, the Signature Edition Challenge will open up for you within the game, comprised of five races over different circuits. In an interesting move, the Challenge is part of Gran Turismo 5‘s innovative B-spec mode. That’s the one where you play as Team Director and the AI does all the driving work, and it’s a deliberate choice that should see the competition opened up for more than just the fastest racers.
There is no limit to the number of times you can complete the races, either. Each region has its own in-game leaderboards to display the top 50 race times for each circuit, and the best 250 combined times when all five races are added up.
Entrants with the fastest total time from each geographic region by the end of January (23:59GMT on January 31) will be invited to the second phase of the competition. That one puts you behind the wheel of a real car, at the Mercedes-Benz Driving Event. The regional winners will compete against each other in a series of real driving challenges, under the watchful eye of the judges.
At the end of the day, the driver with the most points wins, and takes home the stunning SLS AMG.
…so. Regretting buying the standard edition yet?
