Sony Online Entertainment have finally given a concrete release date for the long awaited MMO DC Universe Online. In some great news for gamers, both the PC and PS3 versions of the game will be launched day-and-date on January 11, 2011, wherever you are in the world. Alongside release, DC will be publishing a 52-issue weekly limited series based on the events of the game!
Being a self-proclaimed DC fanboy and a massive fan of Jim Lee’s art (who is the creative director), I am most excited for this!

It looks like the game will come with one month of game time and after that it shall be US$15 per month or US$199 for a lifetime subscription! And from the way the Beta has been, a lifetime subscription may well be worth it!
“Creating DC Universe Online has been a massive undertaking, and we’re excited to be that much closer to launch. We’re grateful to our beta players for providing us invaluable feedback in these final stages that has enabled us to put the finishing touches on a fun and exciting experience when the game launches in January.”
The premise behind DC Universe Online is simple. Lex Luthor has traveled back in time from a dire future where Braniac has destroyed humanity. Lex bestows thousands of humans with super-human abilities to try and prevent Braniac from destroying humanity. Players will be able to choose from heroes and villians while also being able to select a mentor from the likes of Batman, Superman and The Joker!
DC Universe Online is also boasting one hell of a voice cast which features Mark Hamill, Adam Baldwin and Will Wheaton.
